Toronto Raptors Golden Season

The 2019 NBA season proved to be the greatest season ever for the Toronto Raptors. To pay tribute to their historic win, I created an infographic that looked at the 24 year history of the Raptors. As someone who can remember Vince Carter in the 2000 Slam Dunk contest, this was a memorable and emotional process to document just how far the organization has come.

The original goal of the piece was to really highlight the 2019 season and showcase some of the stats. But after working on the piece, it wasn’t providing the impact that I was looking for. The Championship was so much more than just the one season. There was so much history and context to explain why their win was so important. So after deciding to do an informational piece, the goal of the infographic morphed into something that would take readers through a history lesson about the Raptors franchise - whether they’re familiar with the team or not. These are some of the sketches that I started with.

Once I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like, I began testing different colour palettes and images to see which one resonated the best. These are some of the ideas I went through.

After some further adjustments, I decided on this as the final piece to best portray their history. I hope it takes readers on a 24 year history lesson with the Raptors.
